Where the right kidney is, in 3D
The right kidney filters blood into urine, sitting a little lower than the left because of the liver. The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs at waist height, either side of the spine towards the back. It lies against the back wall of the abdomen, right of the spine and behind the peritoneum, usually spanning the twelfth thoracic to third lumbar vertebrae. An adrenal gland sits on top, with the liver and duodenum in front.
