Where the aorta is, in 3D

The aorta is the largest artery, carrying blood from the left ventricle to the body. It belongs to the cardiovascular system. It rises from the left ventricle as the ascending aorta, curves over as the aortic arch and runs down in front of the spine as the descending aorta. The descending aorta is called the thoracic aorta above the diaphragm and the abdominal aorta below it.

Frequently asked questions

Which body system does the aorta belong to?

The aorta belongs to the cardiovascular system. The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart and the blood vessels: arteries, veins and capillaries.

What else can you see alongside the aorta?

The BAHI BODY 3D model of the heart also shows the right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle, tricuspid valve, pulmonary valve, mitral valve, aortic valve, pulmonary trunk, superior vena cava, inferior vena cava, brachiocephalic trunk, brachiocephalic veins, common carotid arteries and subclavian arteries.

Where is the heart?

The heart is a muscular organ in the middle of the chest, slightly to the left, between the lungs.

Which arteries branch from the aortic arch?

Usually three, in order: the brachiocephalic trunk, the left common carotid artery and the left subclavian artery.
